This is an opportunity to work with renowned artist, Jody Alexander, to learn to create and incorporate your own imagery and mark making into your fiber arts projects.
In this workshop students will learn how to create and print with stencils on fabric, and then piece together and embroider the fabric to make a decorative tabletop quilt square. The techniques and skills learned can be applied to quilt making, garment making, and other fiber arts pieces.
Students will learn how to cut and print stencils, and will learn a number of embroidery stitches. Inspirational images will be shown of contemporary designers who create imagery that works well with stencils. We will also look at contemporary fiber artists who combine printing and stitching. Your finished piece will be richly layered and unique to you. The project can be entirely hand stitched but a sewing machine may be used if you have one and that is your preference.
