Classic Shirt Construction with Beth Galvin

About the Event

Online Workshop Hours (PST):

January 11 - 27 (3 weeks, 9 hours)

Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:00 - 7:30pm

Looking to build your skills and make new sewing friends? It's always more fun to sew together. This online class is part formal class instruction from our expert garment instructor, Beth Galvin, and part sewing social time sprinkled with helpful hints, tips, and (virtual) helping hands.

In January, join Beth for Adventures in Shirt Making! A shirt is the sum of its parts, and in this month's sessions, you will learn all about shirt construction. We will cover details such as collar, collar stand, placket, cuffs, button band and more. These are skills you can use on any shirt pattern!

You will meet each Tuesday when Beth will introduce a new topic or skill that will be related to the project. Then meet up again on Thursdays for Social Sewing and one-on-one troubleshooting.

Skill level: ✂️✂️

You have a few projects under your belt. You aready know how to thread and use a sewing machine and you're ready to learn more advanced basics.

Pattern Recommendations:

There are lots of great patterns available! You could choose the Classic Shirt by Liesl & Co, or you could also work on the Archer Shirt by Grainline or Cashmerette's Harrison Shirt. For a men's pattern, check out the All Day Shirt from Liesl & Co. or the Fairfield from Thread Theory. There are lots of options! You could even do a shirt with a placket, like the Kalle Shirt from Closet Core. You choose which one is right for you and Beth will help you sew it up beautifully!

Supplies:

So that you can be sure to get your pattern in time, we recommend purchasing your pattern digitally. If you've never done a PDF pattern before, we have a great tutorial on our blog. When you register for the club, you will also get a 15% off coupon good towards class supplies at Stonemountain & Daughter

About the instructor:

Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun. Sign up for one of Beth's classes and let her teach you how satisfying it can be to sew great clothes that make you look great!
