If you’ve just started quilting or have a stack of quilt tops you can’t finish, this class is for you! In class you will learn how to quilt using a walking foot on your domestic sewing machine.

We will go over all the steps to baste your quilt layers together and learn how to sew both straight and curved quilting designs. You'll also pick up all the tips and tricks for choosing batting, strategizing quilting motifs and finding reliable marking tools to mark your quilting designs on your quilt top.

Once you’ve taken this class, you will be able to finish all those quilt tops from past classes or confidently start a variety of other quilted projects like place mats, quilt coats & quilted bags!

Please note: For class, we request that you keep your project small, no larger than a baby quilt. You will leave class with the skills you need to tackle larger quilts. If you want to bring a large quilt to talk about quilting design options and strategy, you are welcome to!

Skill level: ✂️✂️

You have used a sewing machine and maybe have a few projects under your belt. You already know how to thread and use a sewing machine and you're ready to learn some quilting skills.

Supplies: You will receive the fabric requirements once you sign up.

Sewing Machines: If you would like to use one of the sewing machines at Ace Makerspace please select the Use Ace Machine ticket. If you would like to use your own sewing machine please select the Use My Machine ticket. DO NOT purchase a Use My Machine ticket if you don't have a machine, it isn't working properly or you aren't comfortable operating it. We don't have extra machines you can use. If we have sold out of Use My Machine tickets, and you want to use your own machine, you may purchase a Use Ace Machine ticket.

About the instructor:

Chelsea Hard made her first quilt perched on the edge of the couch with her sewing machine on the coffee table. Now practicing better ergonomics and covered in thread, she enjoys all aspects of quilting both by hand and machine. When not quilting or teaching, she can be found purchasing crafts supplies she’ll only use once, adding too much Liberty fabric to her online shopping cart & actively avoiding organizing her studio. She is the former president of the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild and an award winning jam maker. Chelsea currently resides in the East Bay with her two sewing machines and two handsome Doodles.
