IN PERSON: Sew a Modern Top or Dress with Beth Galvin

This class has two sessions:

• ONLINE - June 8, 6:30 - 7:30pm. Beth will review everything you need to know and do before coming to class on Saturday. She'll talk about the pattern, how to chose the correct size, fabric selection and walk you through cutting out a pattern and the fabric. This will be recorded, please watch it before the in person class if you can't attend the live session. By doing the prep, you'll have more time to sew and get Beth's awesome tips and tricks.
• IN PERSON - Saturday, June 24, 10am - 3pm at Ace Makerspace

Beth will teach you everything you need to know to confidently make the Cielo Top + Dress. However, depending on the options you select, and your sewing speed, you may not finish your garment in class. We recommend you choose the short sleeve top or dress rather than tackling the long gathered sleeve. To help you put the pedal to the metal, Beth will be holding an online prep session.

In this class, you learn how to:

• Select the correct size and cut out a pattern
• Make simple pattern adjustments
• Lay out the fabric
• Properly pin the pattern pieces
• Cut out and mark your fabric
• Sew with a proper seam allowance
• Set a sleeve
• Tips and tricks for better and faster sewing

Skill level: ✂️✂️

You have a few projects under your belt. You aready know how to thread and use a sewing machine and you're ready to learn more advanced basics.

Supply List: We will send you a complete supply list, including fabric recommendations once you've registered for class.

Sewing Machines: 

If you would like to use one of the sewing machines at Ace Makerspace (we highly recommend this for beginng sewists) please select the Use Ace Machine ticket. If you are comfortable and would like to use your own sewing machine please select the Use My Machine ticket. DO NOT purchase a Use My Machine ticket if you don't have a machine, it isn't working properly or you aren't comfortable operating it. We don't have extra machines you can use. If we have sold out of Use My Machine tickets, and you want to use your own machine, you may purchase a Use Ace Machine ticket. 

About the instructor: 

Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun. Sign up for one of Beth's classes and let her teach you how satisfying it can be to sew great clothes that make you look great!

Location:

We will be meeting at Ace Makerspace in their nicely outfitted sewing studio at 6050 Lowell St, #206, Oakland CA 94608. Located where Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville come together and just a short hop from Ashby BART. Ace Makerspace is a nonprofit whose mission is bringing people together to create, learn and solve life’s challenges with an amazing array of tools, technology, and project-based education. All in inclusive spaces, serving everybody in Oakland and beyond. You are required to open a free guest account prior to class.

Cancellation Policy:

Class fees are non-refundable. However you may transfer the class to a friend if you let us know in advance (please ask them to set up a guest account at Ace Makerspace).
