Quilted Hearts! With Claire Sherman
Learn to make quilted hearts, to hide, gift, or use as decorations.
This is your opportunity to brighten someone's day, starting with yourself. Claire's classes are fun and supportive - you are sure to leave with a pocket full of hearts and a smile on your face. You can decide whether you want to give away your heart or keep it for yourself or, maybe, do both.
Looking for a fun project to use up scraps, old blocks and all those pretty, shiny buttons and beads you've been saving? What better way to show them off than by adding them to your quilted heart.
Techniques taught include:
- quilting the hearts by machine with feed dogs up or down
- hand quilting
- hand embroidery
- embellishing with beads, buttons, and other trinkets
- twining - the process of making a multiple ply string or yarn. When done by hand, each strand can be a different color.
Claire makes hearts for a project called I Found a Quilted Heart. You can't help but fall in love with what they do when you read the stories people post when they find a heart. Check it out at www.IFAQH.com.

Sewing Machines and Equipment: If you want to use your sewing machine you will need to bring it and basic sewing supplies to class. The specific tools you need will be included in the supply list.
About the instructor:
Inspired by a neighbor’s Victorian crazy quilt, Claire Sherman started making her first quilt at age 13. There were no quilters in her family, so she taught herself, making it up as she went along. Improvisational quilting is still her favorite method of quilt design. Twenty years after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, with a BFA in ceramics, she rediscovered her love of quilting. Claire has taught workshops in quilting and other crafts for adults and children
throughout California.
