There's a lot to learn in this class, so we want to do everything we can to maximize your in person class time!!
- ONLINE: Prep Session, Thursday September 28, 6:30 - 7PM - Beth will discuss fabrics, interfacing, notions, selecting your size and cutting and marking your fabric. We will also send you a video of the prep session the following day so you can review the material or watch at your convenience.
- IN PERSON: Workshop, Sunday, October 8, 10:00AM - 3:00PM, Ace Makerspace, Oakland
Learn how to sew up the super-popular Lander Pant from True Bias Patterns. With a high waist, people LOVE this pattern for it's flattering fit and comfort on all sorts of body types. Check out #landerpants on Instagram to see what we mean!
This pattern comes with OPTIONS!
- Make it as shorts, ankle length, or boot length pants. You pick whichever style suits you best!
- The pattern comes with a button fly but Beth will also teach you how to put in a zipper instead of the button front.
Keep in mind there's a lot of sewing involved in making a pair pants. You will leave class with all the tips and tricks you need to make these pants but even the most experienced sewers will find it challenging to finish sewing them within class time.

You are comfortable with a sewing machine and want to take your garment sewing to the next level.
Supplies: You will need to purchase the Lander Pant from True Bias Patterns. You will receive the supply list once you sign up.
Sewing Machines: If you would like to use one of the sewing machines at Ace Makerspace please select the Use Ace Machine ticket. If you are comfortable and would like to use your own sewing machine please select the Use My Machine ticket. DO NOT purchase a Use My Machine ticket if you don't have a machine, it isn't working properly or you aren't comfortable operating it. We don't have extra machines you can use. If we have sold out of Use My Machine tickets, and you want to use your own machine, you may purchase a Use Ace Machine ticket.
About the instructor:
Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun. Sign up for one of Beth's classes and let her teach you how satisfying it can be to sew great clothes that make you look great!
Special Opportunity:
Ace Makerspace is holding a Textiles Open Studio immediately following this class. You have a chance to use their beautiful space, sewing machines and equipment to continue working on your garment. The Textiles Open Studio is hosted by Team Ace who can assist you with the equipment and answer your basic sewing questions. This class is being held at the Ace Makerspace located at 6050 Lowell St, #206, Oakland CA 94608. Located where Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville come together and just a short hop from Ashby BART. Ace Makerspace is a nonprofit whose mission is bringing people together to create, learn and solve life’s challenges with an amazing array of tools, technology, and project-based education. All in inclusive spaces, serving everybody in Oakland and beyond. You are required to open a free guest account prior to class.
