About the Event

Button front shirts and shirts with collars are tricky! Plackets, button holes, collar stands, all of these things are not for the faint of heart. We will tackle all of these hurdles in Garment Sewing: Button Front Shirt.

This class is two, three hour sessions

Date: Two Tuesdays, July 17 & 24, 6pm - 9pm

Learn the tricks and tips to make your own classic button-front shirt such as:

  • Proper fitting
  • How to make button holes
  • Making a placket
  • How to sew a collar stand

You can choose between making a shirt for a male or female figure, but if you're making a shirt for someone else, please let us know as you'll need to bring a little more information to the first class!

Recommended patterns:

You can bring ANY shirt pattern with buttons and/or a collar. The Curvy Sewing Collective did a great pattern round up of button-up shirts. Some shirts that we like are shown in the photo. You can find those shirts in the links below.

About the instructor:

Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun.
