“Each of my cut cloth wall pieces is entirely unique, melding diverse influences ranging from African Shoowa textiles to Moroccan Beni Ourian rugs to traditional American patchwork. Created with up to seven different fabrics, layer upon layer is set upon a foundation and pathways of imperfect symmetry are stitched and slashed to reveal the hidden structure underneath. Each layer affects how the next one behaves. I enjoy the element of surprise each piece provides, for only when the cloth is sewn, slashed, bound and washed will the transformation occur and the result be revealed.”
